I think this was around March 2023. At that time, the Veterinary Department had planned a mass Anti-Rabies Vaccination (ARV) programme for stray dogs across Tanuku city, and our team came early in the morning to carry out the vaccinations.
We had professional dog catchers with us, but the moment the dogs saw them, they would run away and become extremely difficult to catch.
That was when you, Pavani, stepped in. You went close to the dogs, gained their trust, made them comfortable, and got them vaccinated. The programme continued for almost two or three days. Looking at the scars on your hands, it is easy to understand how many times those dogs must have bitten you during those days.
For us as vaccinators, your presence made our work much easier. Because you and your team were able to handle the dogs with patience and compassion, we could successfully vaccinate almost all the stray dogs in the city.
That experience itself says a lot about you. And the ARV programme was only one part of what you were doing. You and your team were continuously working for:
- Anti-Rabies Vaccination
- ABC surgeries
- Rescue of injured animals
- Feeding stray animals
- Adoptions
- Stray dog care
- Post-surgery care
- Treatment and rehabilitation of injured animals
And then there is something even more special. You built a shelter of your own at Velpur, where injured dogs and cows could receive treatment and care. You personally took responsibility for their treatment and continued looking after them even after their surgeries.
There is so much more that can be said about your work. What amazes me most is that you never gave up on your studies either. Even while pursuing your MBBS abroad, you continued to take responsibility for the animals here, managing and coordinating things virtually from another country. And honestly, that is not easy.
You are a young woman, studying medicine in another country, yet you still choose to spend your time, energy, money and even your own safety for animals that cannot speak for themselves. That is something I genuinely respect.
I believe you have always looked at the world from the side of the stray dogs — not as a problem to be removed, but as lives that deserve compassion, protection and a chance to survive.
And I want you to know one thing: I support you. I support your compassion, your work, and your fight for animals that have no voice.
Keep doing what you are doing, Pavani. People may not always understand why you do it, but the animals certainly know the difference you have made in their lives. 🤍 🐾
